Commitment to Technology

Technology is continuously advancing in today's society. As an educator, it is my commitment to be a life-long learner of technology. It is also my commitment to share my knowledge of the digital world with my students and incorporate technology into the classroom to address the 4 C's, which include: critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication. To become an advocate of technology in the classroom, I have provided several artifacts as evidence. These artifacts, Google Drive and EdShelf, will be used on a daily basis in the classroom. Both artifacts will be used to promote student engagement and interactions in a positive learning environment. By incorporating these artifacts into the curriculum, students will demonstrate technological skills that can be used in the classroom and in real-life applications.

For Google Drive, I plan to use Google Docs and Google Sheets quite frequently to record and save data for lab experiments. Students dispersed in lab groups will be able share information with peers through Google Cloud. In the lecture portion of the class, I plan to use Pear Deck, which is a Google Drive extension. This extension will allow me to create interactive presentations, in which students can provide feedback and answers throughout the lecture.

EdShelf is an online platform that offers a variety of apps for classroom management and teaching strategies. In my classroom, I plan to use multiple apps to provide better understanding of chemistry concepts. The Periodic Table of Elements app, for example, will be used to give detailed information about each element on the periodic table. To maintain classroom management, the app Classroom Roulette will be used to keep track of which students have been called on for certain responsibilities. This way, students will be chosen fairly and still maintain control of the learning environment.

I have included a unit that incorporates technology into all five lessons. This unit expresses my commitment to technology by helping students to become technologically literate. By utilizing technological tools, students can build upon their knowledge and extend their critical thinking skills. These students are the future leaders who will find solutions to complex, real world problems with the help of technological advancements and collaboration.
